Day 8 (2/5) - History Museum, Memorial, Baseball Game & Movie at Bricktown
I remember this day was the day we were all supposed to go to Dallas, Texas for shopping and sightseeing.
It was our much anticipated trip and many of us had saved up for the cheap and good shopping there!
However, the plan was aborted due to the on-going case of swine flu in Mexico. What a pity...
So we were given 3 choices of location to spend the day at. The first was shopping at Quail Spring Mall & Belle Isle. Second was go-cart racing and some other games. Last one was a trip to the History Museum and Memorial.
We decided to opt for the museum trip mainly because we didn't feel like spending money on shopping. Most of our classmates opted for the shopping while only six of us went to the museum trip! Haha!
The residence inn where we stayed at.
We went to the nearby Mexican restaurant for some lunch before the museum trip.
On the border. This place really serves good food... We went there twice during our stay there.
Nachos and dips are always served when the customers arrived.
Non-alcoholic beer! It contains less than 0.5% alcohol that's why, just like Jolly Shandy.
Our yummy grilled chicken! I personally love the corn with cheese!
The sinful brownie! A must-try! We actually went back the second time just to order this!
After a good hearty lunch, we headed back to the hotel to board the bus to the museum!
When we arrived, there were loads of people! Apparently, they are holding some rock-and-roll event.
The lucky thing was we all didn't have to pay to go into the museum because of this event! Yay! Haha!
The main atrium with some concert going on.
Our rock-and-roll band! Haha!
There were loads of things to see in the museum. I can't post everything up here as there were too many photos...
Sonic is America's very famous fast food restaurant.
That was what the dental clinic had during the segregation period, a sink each for the whites and the blacks.
This was taken outside the museum, trying to blend in with the native Americans. Haha!
The church outside the memorial.
The Alfred P. Murrah building was under terrorist attack in 1995.
The terrorists actually rammed a truck filled with explosive into the building killing 168 people.
The building had since been demolished and turned into a memorial park.
Each chair represents the person who died during the bombing.
These chairs are lit at night. Notice the frosted glass cube below the bronze? That is where the lights will come on at night.
With the security guard at the memorial.
I think this was called the reflection pool.
9:03 was the time after the terrorist attack happened. The panel on the other side showed 9:01 when it happened.
Can you imagine what happened during that 2 seconds when the building was destroyed and hundreds of lives lost?
The impact of the bombing damaged it's neighboring building and it is still there today.
Children's art work nearby.
Dedications, letters, photographs of the deceased are all hanged here in memory of this place.
After that we went to Bricktown to watch a baseball game! Courtesy of our school who paid for the tickets! Yay!
We also had free movie tickets each as well as free popcorn!
Bricktown.
Our tickets to the baseball game, movie and popcorn!
Inside the baseball stadium. The game had not started yet.
So many empty seats...
The snacks stand.
Yay! This was my first time watching a LIVE baseball game.
Guess what this cute mascot is supposed to be?
It is supposed to be a red hawk! Haha! But their mascot looked more like a parrot to me! Haha!
Mascot saying hello to the kids.
Our seats were on the second level. Pretty nice view up there!
We spotted the mascot when we were about to leave the stadium! Haha! Then this cute little boy came.
Outside Harkins Theatre where we watched our first movie! Wolverine!
The movie was good although I would very much prefer it to be some horror movies instead! Haha!
The night got really cold and I remembered I could hardly withstand the cold! Cannot take it! So we all went to Starbucks cafe for some hot drinks.
A nice cuppa hot chocolate to warm up! And it was really good!
Caught unaware licking my mouth after a yummy sip of hot chocolate. Haha!
Too cold until it sort of had misty rain. The orbs are evident to that. Heh!
Day 9 (3/5) - Oklahoma Zoo!
To the zoo to the zoo to the zoo we go!
Welcome to the Oklahoma Zoo!
The tram.
We took the tram ride around the zoo before we got down to explore! See, even their trams are so pretty!
Giraffe eating in that funny position. Haha!
Guess what he was doing?
It was some souvenir collectibles. I chose the flamingo while he got the elephant. Hehe!
My favorite bird among all.
Why? Because I find it very interesting!
The fur colors are like tree barks. I observed this little bird for so long and it could stand so still like a rock or something! Then when it gave out short little hoots, I thought it was really cute! Haha!
We spotted an adorable squirrel! So cute!!!
Beautiful fox!
I was very mesmerized by the beauty of the swift fox. It had really pretty eyes and facial features.
Actually, it was sleeping but could not because we were all standing there looking and taking photos of him. Haha!
Notice the other fox at the back? It was walking back and froth all the while, we don't know what it wants. Haha!
This is a badger! My first time seeing it. Cool~
Prairie dogs! I was so excited when I saw them!
Prairie dog eating.
The moment we arrived at the grizzly bear enclosure, this bear jumped into the water for a swim!
Bears are amazingly BIG eaters!
I was quite shocked when I saw two eagles in an open enclosure. Wouldn't they fly away?
Turned out that they were previously injured and could not fly anymore, that's why... So they were just hopping here and there... Haha!
Hungry goose walking towards me!!
Halfway through our walk, we came to see this goose with something yellow on it's beak!
I wondered if it was mustard and quickly told him to look at this goose's beak. An ang-mo overheard me and replied saying it was nacho and cheese!! Wahahaha!!!
We saw another goose in our path again.
It was hungry! And was aiming at my french fries!
Pardon for the over-sized sweat shirt which he lent me to wear because it was freezing cold!
Oh my gosh~ This goose was like super cute!
It kept looking at my french fries and I don't know whether to give it or not...
Then he (snapping the picture) kept telling me to put my hand lower, which I did! (so silly! >.<)
Then the goose quickly snatch the fries away from my hand and I let out a scream! Hahaha!!!
He is like so bad lar... And so is the goose!
Still hungry!
Fries not enough, it still wants onion rings!!!!! Hahaha!!! Cute right?
It was literally walking towards him when he tried to temp it with onion rings!
A very interesting classification of wild horses.
Okapi! Very interesting animal!
This strange looking animal was one of the main highlights of the zoo!
Okay, that summarize the end of our zoo trip! I really had a lot of fun there! Yep! :)
A compilation of the videos I took at the zoo. :)
Day 10 (4/5) - Faculty dinner
Credit: okcu.edu
This is what the school canteen looks like... Very huge... And it is buffet style! Meaning all you had to do was to pay USD$6 and then you can eat all you want there!
A typical school lunch. I love the salads! I always had huge servings of salads.
The faculty dinner is basically a gathering between the professors and the students! We met up with some our professors who taught us and even had photos taken.
My crazy class. Haha! I think Su was blowing a kiss at me! Lol!
Resting at the school's big sofa after the dinner.
Guess what we saw hopping on the grass at our residence inn?
Cute rabbit!
There were actually wild rabbits hopping around were we stayed! How cool is that?
I wanted to catch it but it hopped away very fast! Hahaha!!
Seeing the wild rabbits remind me of Zen back home... I miss her.
We were given 2 hours to shop around Penn Square Mall again.
After a short walk around the mall, we decided to walk to the nearby Cheesecake Factory to buy their cheesecake!
The Cheesecake Factory. Nice building.
We had key lime cheesecake to go. Quite sinful... :) Not really to my liking but he loves it.
Day 11 (5/5) -Exercise time!
This is actually part of our module. Haha! Don't ask me why... We had something like a PE (physical education) lesson that day.
Our classroom all set up for exercises.
Basically what we did for the whole morning was we ran around the school, tried out equipments in the gym and measured our body fats, cholesterol, etc...
Next we decided to try out the nearby Chinese restaurant recommended by our professor.
The Grand House.
This steamed fish was extremely delicious! But quite costly! I think around USD$15.
We were almost late for our lesson after our lunch because we over-ordered food! We really underestimated their food (huge) portion!
See those plates with rice and food overflowing the plate? That was supposed to be a ONE person's portion! As we were in a hurry, we shared all the food.
We ran back all the way to school just in time to get on the bus to take us to our next destination!
Guess what? I actually heard from the earlier batch that this trip is to a health center. And you can basically do anything you want there for the three hours!
You can choose to play squash, basketball, work-out in the gym, do yoga, swim and even relax yourself with dry/wet sauna!!
Yes! It is sauna! You didn't read me wrong.
So exciting right? :P
On they way... We passed by the golden dome again. Hehe!
We decided to play a game of squash!
After putting our things in the locker, we borrowed the squash rackets from the counter.
Hit!
Actually I don't know how to play squash, neither do all my friends. Haha! So we just "anyhow" hit and played for fun!
The ball flew in all directions! It was quite funny and I can't stop laughing... Haha!
After playing for quite a while, we sort of got the hang of the game.
See how body moved to "siam" the ball which flew in between us? Hahaha! Like Matrix!
Haha! This was Su's signature move. She did this to avoid the ball flying towards her so we posed this way for the picture! Haha!
Me and Su!
We were supposed to model after the Madagascar penguins. Haha!
I feel good after several games of squash! Never had such a wonderful workout before!
My whole face was flushed in pink after the game! :P
Great game! After our exercise was up, we bought health blended smoothies to drink! A good drink to end a tiring day... ;)
Day 12 (6/5) - Grand House & Gopuram Indian Restaurant
After our lesson during our lunch break, we headed to the Grand House for some Chinese food again!
The road outside the restaurant.
I was trying to finish up my class worksheet. :X
All of us certainly miss Chinese food. They are really good especially the eggplant (in the claypot).
Steamed fish again!
Fish attack! Dig in!
Happy faces after lunch.
After our lesson ended for the day, we went to this Gopuram Indian restaurant for dinner. We also invited Prof. Hessler to join us. :)
When we entered the restaurant, a wif of curry washed over us!
Oh my gosh~ O.O Curry......
It smelled so good that everyone was craving for it. We haven't had any spicy food for so long.
Interior decor.
Buffet styled dinner...
I miss papadam! I had loads of that! Haha! Everyone really enjoyed the dinner and I ate until I burst! Haha!
Group pix.
At the car park waiting for the cabs to arrive.
My roomie Yi Qin and I.
Day 12 (6/5) - Honor's Induction & Lake Hefner
It was time or the honor's induction where our top students receive their honor's cert and medal.
The top students wearing their medals proudly. :) Congrats girls~
It was a day at Lake Hefner after school! I could hardly wait because we were going to fly kites!
Feeling like a little girl again.
Hurray! Coincidentally, Su and I wore almost same colored top! Haha!
I love Lake Hefner!
Preparing our kites! I chose the turtle kite because it reminds me of his terrapin!
Our kite was already in the air... Haha!
Sweet moment captured~ :)
Our kite high high up in the air!
The kite is so cute! It even has little turtle trailing behind the big one! (ps. you can purchase this at Wal-Mart)
Too windy...
The scenery is beautiful... I really love the states, I wish I was back there...
We found a tiny terrapin among the grass. Hehe!
Only 5 of us came including some from the other classes. Posing with the baby turtles and me with the big one!
The successful flight. We managed to fly this kite in the air for about half an hour or so...
Lighthouse at Lake Hefner. Goodbye Lake Hefner.
At Penn Sqaure Mall.
This time we went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner!
I like the plain bread better than the chocolate one.
Clam chowder soup. It is nothing like Singapore's bland version. This has got a lot of ingredients!
Onion rings.
Button mushrooms! This was way too yummy! I love it~
My meal shared with him. I can't remember what pasta it was. Hated the beansprout, I think it spoilt the dish. And it had lots of chopped peanuts. Tasted like I was eating peanut butter pasta.
We walked over to Belle Isle from Penn Square Mall, had to cross over this "longkang".
Spotted Baby 'R' Us baby superstore! I have heard of Toys 'R' Us but never this. Interesting. :)
One of my favorite shopping place, Ross.
We took a cab home after our shopping. Cab fare is like thrice as expensive as Singapore's.
I am never complaining again if I were to take a cab from the East to the West and it cost only S$20... -.-"
Halfway through on the highway, the cab experienced some technical fault and had to pull it to the side. So we waited for another cab to come.
Playing around while waiting... So bored.
Cheeky me... Haha! I had to stick my head out like that so I could be in the picture! Lol!
The cabs there are much bigger than Singapore's. They had very spacious seats too as you can see.
